Cambodia

Cambodia’s recent history is known around the world. But it is impossible to get a sense of this incredible country without experiencing it first hand.

We embark on a community service project in the Siem Reap province. As soon as we head away from the tourist crowds the poverty in the area is plain to see, but so is the hope for a brighter future. Everywhere we are greeted by a sea of smiles as we join in with a village on much needed project work, working together with our partner NGO, HUSK. We work especially closely with the children in the area, providing hope and empowerment as we come to educate and be educated. HUSK runs a school site in Kompheim village which we have proudly supported since the beginning, as well as other fascinating projects such as health centres and setting up micro-businesses for poor families.

Of course we also visit the temples of Angkor, but not simply to take photos. We are taken on a journey into an ancient kingdom where we learn about the incredibly rich culture and history of the temples and the area by exploring it on an intimate and personal level with our knowledgeable local guides.

Have you heard about our Cambodian Plastic Bottle Project? Over the last few years, working closely with the local community, we’ve collected around 70,000 plastic bottles stuffed with 35,000 litres of plastic waste and used them as eco bricks to build a school and a medical centre with our visiting international school students. We’re all very proud of what this project has achieved to date, and would like to thank our local partners HUSK for helping make it possible.

Have you considered:

Being part of the incredible plastic bottle project, building a school out of bottles and plastic waste A cycling trip exploring rural villages and finding hidden temples in forests as we explore on two wheels Studying photography around the most photogenic temples in the world
