Myanmar

“This is Burma, and it will be quite unlike any land you know about”, wrote Rudyard Kipling. In some ways huge amounts have changed in the country since he wrote those words, but the statement still remains entirely true.

The new democracy in Myanmar (Burma) has ushered in fresh hope and energy to this incredible land of tradition and beauty. We talk about the excitement of the future with men in traditional longyi (skirts) and children in thanakha (a paste used as make up and suncream). A sunrise over Bagan will take your breath away, and the Buddhist pagodas around Mandalay are simply stunning, but it is not only the sights that will stay in your memory forever. The people, way of life, and host of other surprises in Myanmar are all part of its charm and what makes it utterly unique. Our trip here takes in Mandalay and Bagan, linked by a cruise down the twinkling Irrawady River. Our service project involves constructing school buildings out of plastic bottles and recycled waste – an incredible project in an incredible country!

The timing is perfect to come to Myanmar now and be one of the first wave of new visitors to find out what all the fuss is about.

Have you considered:

Being part of the incredible plastic bottle project, building a school out of bottles and plastic waste Exploring the incredible beauty and vastness of the Bagan temples during sunris Learning about Buddhism as we meditate with monks and nuns

We are not currently running our Myanmar trips due to the political situation.

Our thoughts are with all of our friends and colleagues in this beautiful country.

Our trips there over the years have provided countless moments of inspiration and wonder, and given an incredible insight to the warm and friendly people who make up this fascinating nation. We hope that the current political situation is resolved in a way that allows the citizens freedom to guide their own paths to the future with the optimism, pride and passion that we have seen in the recent past.

Myanmar – you are in our minds and hearts, and we can’t wait to see you again soon.
