Sri Lanka has been called a small universe, with a range of scenery, climates and cultures reminiscent of lands several times bigger. In the short time we are there we have an opportunity to see some of the stunning variety that this teardrop-shaped nation has to offer.
It was once said that a lifetime is not enough to truly appreciate the variety of Sri Lanka. But we squeeze enough into our trip here to have a wonderful immersive experience, and get an idea of the beauty and culture all around in this spectacular island.
The Indago Sri Lanka Trip is based on a stunning loop through Hill Country and down around the South Coast. As the train winds up into the tea-growing region we are transported into a land of emerald green, with waterfalls, mountains and breathtaking vistas. We join the tea-growing communities there for the service element, with a unique opportunity to become a member of their community for a few days. We then head south in search of some of the creatures that share this magnificent island, such as leopards and elephants. But we also look outwards from the land as we take to the ocean to marvel at the sheer size and elegance of the biggest creatures to have ever lived – blue whales – passing us by.
